Clay and Anagama firing  /   粘土と窯焚き

■Bizen ware is a pottery made of familiar materials.

It is no exaggeration to say that the process of making clay, which is a familiar material, is the most important process for me, and that the sensitivity of the artist is put in here. This is one of the important tasks that decides the texture and color of the work that the artist aims for.

Next, the loading and the firing determines and fixes the texture and color of the work. In particular, the firing of the anagama kiln is a work that takes into account the type of fuel tree, its properties, the time of day, and the weather.

Bizen is a typical pottery that “makes” while communicating with nature, which is the basis of Japanese aesthetic sense. Neither primitive nor sauvage, neither local nor wild, and neither gorgeous nor sensational, but proud to continue its essence as a minimalistic pottery for nearly a thousand years, based on its accumulated technology and sensitivity, creating my Bizen works.
